Another Death in the Fenway

Published by Dave Daniels under Boston, Fenway, Flora, History, Nature

Location: The corner of Queensberry and Park Drive, West Fens, Boston. This HUGE tree has graced this corner with shade and fresh oxygen for decades. It’s been there for more than then 30+ years that I’ve lived in this neighborhood. It’s big, stately, and has been there since the early days of the neighborhood. For the last two years, I’ve been noticing that it’s not been doing too well. It’s sad, really, to see something so old just fade away.

Unfortunately, I’m not the only one to have noticed it’s failing health. On my way home from work one day last week, the tree was noticeably missing. And, yes, it was a rather emotional moment to see that is was gone. Sure, sky is nice, but shade is better.

Nature’s Fireworks

Did you sleep in this morning after a wild night of partying on the Esplanade watching the 4th of July fireworks? If you did, this is the natural fireworks provided by Mother Nature herself that you missed this morning. Watching it with me was a 13 week old kitten and about 10,000 birds. Good times. :)

When Grizzlies [or whatever] Attack!

Happy 4th of July to all my fellow Americans, here and abroad. And an extra special shout out to my nephew Daniel, who shipped out to Iraq last week. Yeah, his mom, my sister, and the whole family are still in shock that this war has gone on this long. Hopefully, once someone else is in office, things will change.

On another note, imagine being one of the few actually working this week. [Insert photo of me raising my hand.] A fellow co-worker [Hi, Caroline!] and I were given the task of doing some location shoots around the eastern part of Massachusetts. She was my cheerful and conversant chauffer to my dutiful photography for business purposes. Spending quite a lot of time in the company vehicle, traveling to both hither AND yon, we saw some of the more refined parts of our region during this pre-holiday week.

So, picture it: you’re traveling down the Massachusetts Turnpike on a bright and sunny day, heading out of town. [Also known as my Comfort Zone.] And, you’re chatting away while traveling at the speed of light the posted speed, and your driver exclaims something about there being a bear on the Turnpike! Ok, I’ve heard of moose wandering around in the local suburbs, like Natick and Wellesley. I suppose it’s possible for there to be a bear that’s made it into the city. While looking around at the few vehicles, I finally spot what’s gotten her alarmed. There it was, on the back of a Ford Dodge 4×4 pickup truck…

Bear Creek

Yup, some guy from Connecticut is in town with a piece of his chain saw art strapped to the back of his truck while he’s racing down the Massachusetts Turnpike. [***sigh***] Another holiday that’s been degraded to tacky out-of-towners… and I thought having Dickhead Cheney in town was bad enough…

Bear Creak

So, on this Fourth of July Holiday, may you see some sights that bring a smile to your face.
